About

Poppy, Founder of Poppy Voon

At the beginning of 2020, I started designing and sewing my own clothes which resulted in my friends and followers wanting to order their own.

As the support continued, something that began as a hobby soon blossomed into a full time project and the more time I spent working with different materials the more I wanted to educate myself on their good and bad qualities.

After putting some research into the textile industry, I was shocked to discover just how terrible the majority of it is. It saddened me to learn about how many pesticides were being used to grow certain fabrics leading to horrible outcomes such as cancer, infertility, birth defects and more in the growers and their surrounding communities. (Conventional) cotton pesticides also now contaminate land, air, food and drinking water in several countries and have a huge effect on our environment.

I know the word 'sustainability' is one that is being used almost everywhere we look, often being rinsed of what it really means. But since learning about the real impacts of the fashion industry, I have made the promise to my customers that conventional cotton, polyester, synthetics and other materials that cause harm to people or the environment will never be found in our garments.

And in keeping with our sustainable ethos, we have created our garments to last. Versatility and longevity are always at the forefront of my mind when designing something new. Almost all of our tops and dresses can be worn more than one way and everything is made with the intention of it lasting you, or the next owner a lifetime.

With designs to suit every body, rest assured, there is something here for you.

All Poppy Voon items are designed and made in Aotearoa.
